Innovation and performance at the center of new refrigerant portfolio, designed to contribute to resiliency and decarbonization globally with less than 150 GWP.
Boston – September 9, 2024 – Orbia Advance Corporation S.A.B. de C.V.’s (BMV: ORBIA*) Fluor & Energy Materials business deepened its commitment to more sustainable refrigerants with today’s launch of its’ in-demand, lower global warming potential (GWP) products: Klea® Edge™.
This bold new portfolio of products, driven by an unwavering commitment to innovation, underscores the company’s leadership within the industry to push boundaries and develop solutions that accelerate progress to a net-zero future. Products developed within the Klea® Edge™ portfolio will be less than 150 GWP.
“Klea® Edge™ represents our investment in cutting-edge technology and R&D to bring to market the next generation of refrigerants that not only support our mission to advance life around the world, but also prioritize performance, stability and ease-of-use for our global customers,” said Shawn Shorrock, Global Vice President, Refrigerants, Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials. “As a longstanding leader in the sector, Orbia’s Klea® Edge™ brand diversifies our product pipeline into lower GWP options that are crucial to the future of our industry and for our customers to meet their climate goals.”
The Klea® Edge™ portfolio will offer a suite of products that are fully compliant with and often exceeding the forward-looking global regulations including the 150 GWP limits. Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials’ products offer solutions for leading commercial refrigerant, automotive and stationary air conditioning customers. As companies and manufacturers work to meet evolving regulations and achieve their sustainability and emission reduction targets, the demand for these products is only increasing. The 150 GWP limit is particularly significant for new refrigeration systems, and Klea® Edge™ is designed to meet these stringent requirements.
“Orbia has created a foundation of trust and shared success with our customers including lower GWP Klea products such as Klea 473A and Klea 456A, and we will build on that to transform the industry into a leader in meeting sustainability targets,” said Michael Mukai, Global Market Management Director, Refrigerants, Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials. “The Klea® Edge™ portfolio is one very impressive proof point to our commitment to advancement while staying true to the legacy and quality of product that everyone has come to know and expect from us.”
The portfolio will help address Orbia’s Scope 3 emissions, which aim to reduce GHG emissions from use and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 30%.*
Initial Products Available in New Portfolio
Leading the way is Klea® Edge™ R-444A, an economical, higher-performance direct replacement for R-1234YF for the automotive aftermarket. The product provides the market options to meet current regulations for carbon emissions, while maintaining ease of use and recovery for service technicians and vehicle owners.
Orbia has plans to provide a portfolio that supports its full range of applications. Developmental products include Klea® Edge™ R-485A, designed to achieve a lower environmental impact and better performance than CO2 across a range of ambient temperatures. It will be suitable for a range of heating, cooling and refrigeration applications across the industry.
There are two upcoming showcases to engage with the Orbia Fluor & Energy materials team around its latest innovations. For commercial refrigeration and stationary air conditioning, the team will attend Chillventa (Nuremberg, Germany) in October at Booth 9-429. For automotive aftermarket applications at AAPEX (Las Vegas, Nevada) in November, visit Booth A5507.
